Smudge sticks or kits came from the Native American Culture, using them in ceremonies and rituals to cleanse and bless places and people. The kits are usually made up of dried sage but some use many other combinations of flowers and herbs, including rosemary, thyme, lavender, or depending on the scents you prefer. The process of burning these smudge kits is called smudging.
Smudging is a process of energetically cleansing space to invite positive energy. When you smudge a place, you burn a smudge stick. The smoke coming from the stick fills and purifies the environment. According to a study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, the smudge kit's medicinal smoke can almost completely eliminate bacteria in the air within the closed space.
